Black November - Recap

NOVEMBER. What a whirlwind November was! This was certainly the most memorable November for Ryan & Rose, all thanks to YOU!

Going into November, we were missing products and didn’t even have our full lineup set. With the sales, deals, games, contests, codes and everything in between Lindsey literally made game-time decisions daily. Thankfully, we have a rockstar team who didn't even bat an eye. Flexibility is a core value for Ryan & Rose and everyone came together to ensure Black November was a huge success!

You were begging for both new and old Limited Edition colors for November. We made the decision to launch 2-3 new colors a week, leading up to our highly anticipated Black Friday sale. Limited Edition colors for November included Brick, Spruce, Arctic, Mauve, Sage, Chocolate, Pinot, Navy, Floral {Rosewood, Peony, & Carnation}, and Ocean {Seaside, Harbor, & Captain}, Red, and Green. Along with these colors, we launched another amazing grouping of Cutie Clips and other products in these hues. New products this month included the Cutie PAT/Bit + Judy Cutie Clip Sets and our 3-Pack Cutie PAT/Bits!

We also upped our referral program to $7 off your first Ryan & Rose purchase of $12 or more. The referring party also received a $7 shop credit for each successful referral! Another incentive was Cutie Cash and Golen Eggs. We sent over $11,000 worth of Cutie Cash & Golen Eggs in packages throughout the month of November! Also, It wouldn’t be November without some Cutie Cash contests in the Cutie Community. This year, we hosted a Cutie Christmas Jingle, Cutie Sweater Contest, Cutie Turkey Contest, and a Cutie Dance Contest! We loved seeing all of the entries and how creative our community members are!

Now, let’s talk about the DEALS! Each week we pre-discounted launch products. This meant, customers could use Cutie Cash, discount codes, or SAVE15 on top of the already awesome savings! Deals included discounted patriotic Cutie Clips, $20 Cutie Cubs, B1G2 Cutie Bracelets, BOGO Cutie Bits, BOGO Cutie Tensils, $3 Cutie Straps, BOGO Cutie Tags, BOGO Cutie Holders, $10 Cutie Keychains, and our epic BLACK FRIDAY SALE!

The Ryan & Rose Black Friday Sale blew our minds. We spent some time trying to figure out what would be the best day/time to start the sale. After discussing different options, we decided to start our Black Friday Sale on Thursday. For 30 minutes only, the entire website was 40% off with the discount code NOVEMBER. We experienced something we had never seen before, a line to checkout. Once Shopify hits a certain threshold for customers checking out at one time, it automatically builds a queue. This did lead to some frustration from a few customers, so we decided to extend the 40% discount another 30 minutes. At 9PM CST, the discount dropped to 35% until midnight. All day Friday, customers were still able to take advantage of 30% off their order, and Saturday/Sunday the discount switched to 25%. For orders placed on Thursday, a Free 2020 Ryan & Rose ornament was included in packages! For orders that were placed Saturday & Sunday, 20 Cutie Boo Swag Bags were included in random orders.

Between Thursday and Monday, 14,580 orders were placed on our website. When Friday morning rolled around, it was all hands on deck to get these orders out the door. We brought in reinforcements, and Bret & Lindsey helped ship as well. Our shipping team worked 14 hour days for 7 days STRAIGHT! There were nights where everyone was a little loopy, but they were able to ship all of those orders within 8 days. How freaking amazing is that?!

While our shipping team worked their butts off to get these orders out in a record amount of time, USPS was experiencing major delays nationwide. We called this #DelayGate2020. Thousands of orders from HQ have sat at the Memphis Distribution Center for weeks. Chris, our contact for USPS, said this is the busiest season he’s seen in his 9 years of working for USPS. Between COVID-19, the election, and the holiday season, they’ve received an influx of packages at their facilities nationwide; an unprecedented amount of mail/packages to process. They’re also seeing a shortage of drivers and trucks which adds to the delay.

While 2020 was a year filled with ups and downs, November was certainly a peak along the ride! What was your favorite thing about Black November?
